Hair

Four months ago I chopped all my hair off. I haven't posted pictures of it because I didn't really like it. I am now growing my hair out and it is at a length that I like so I thought I'd post a picture.
Enjoy!

Memory Lane

Memory Lane…the tag that gets everyone involved!

Here are the directions: 1. As a comment on my blog, leave one memory that you and I had together. It doesn’t matter if you knew me a little or a lot, anything you remember! 2. Next, re-post these instructions on your blog and see how many people leave a memory about you. It’s actually pretty funny to see the responses. If you leave a memory about me, I’ll assume you’re playing the game and I’ll come to your blog and leave one about you. If you don’t want to play on your blog, or if you don’t have a blog, I’ll leave my memory of you in my comments.

Home-canned strawberry jam

Lately Doug and I have been thinking a lot about food storage and emergency preparedness. Not that it's much of a surprise with all of the natural disasters and power outages we've been experiencing in Michigan and all over the world. In an earlier post I wrote about my mom and I starting a vegetable garden, this was part of our plan to start canning. We have been very successful with the garden thus far, and are making preparations for canning later in the season. I have also decided, although not set in stone, to make my own bread instead of buying it at the store. I love homemade bread and what better to go with homemade bread than homemade jam! It was the first time I had ever canned jam, and it was super easy and took no time at all. All it took was 4 cups crushed strawberries and 4 cups sugar. It's super yummy! For the last week I have had toast with jam for breakfast. Another feat I want to accomplish is making my own patchwork jean quilt. I have no idea how to sew or go about this so if anyone has any ideas on beginning quilting please share! Below are some pictures of the much anticipated garden development and the yummy jam that we canned!

These are the cucumbers

watermelon and cantaloupe

strawberry jam, yum!

A little scare

Yesterday Erik and mom had a little excitement in the morning. After Erik got a bath I took him in his bedroom to get dressed for the day. I layed him on the floor to dry him off and put a diaper on. As soon as I finish dressing him I feel that I should pick Erik up. After I picked him up I heard a strange sound, I wasn't sure where the sound was coming from but for some reason I felt the need to sit really still. All of a sudden the glass light fixture almost directly above us shatters around us. No one got hurt, thank goodness, but I was in shock for a moment. I know that we were being watched over and I am grateful for our safety. Below are some pictures that I took of the aftermath.

This is the type of light fixture that fell

We were sitting in the spot in the middle of the picture

The weird thing about the whole event is that in the almost year that we have lived here we had never taken the light fixture down to change light bulbs.
